Design of Facebook is such that by default it allows anyone to send you a friendship proposal. People feel hopeful without realizing that some people could be facing a barrage of such unwelcome approach. Let’s see how you can change the default behavior of Facebook and stop unsolicited friend requests. At the onset, let me tell you that on Facebook it is not possible to disallow everyone from sending you friend request. Facebook is a social network and it is all about connecting with people. So, just being there without having any friends would not make any sense. That’s why banning everyone in one click is not possible. However, you can limit the scope of people who can send you a Facebook friend request. Some people don’t want to receive friend requests from people who are not at all connected with them. This could be done as below:
Go to Facebook Privacy Settings Now select “Who can contact me” option Change the value of “Who can send you friend requests?” from Everyone to “Friends of friends”
That’s it! Now only those people who are connected with you through your existing Facebook friends would be able to send you requests. Totally unknown people won’t be able to send you friend requests. I suggest that you activate this setting. It will reduce the number of friend requests. Also, if someone is bothering you with repeated requests, then you can at least complain to the common friends. These common friends can then take up the issue with the trouble-maker. Facebook is a social network. Online society can only make it function properly. Mutual dependance on friends to sort out such issues is a good this. Technology has its own limits.
